USD 234 Remote/Snow Day Update

Thursday, February 11, 2021

Snow Days/Remote Learning:

There have been a number of adjustments in our academic calendar this school year.  With the 16 professional development days in August, student attendance beginning after Labor Day, utilizing two professional development days before Thanksgiving break, and the two recent snow days on Monday and Tuesday of this week, we are currently at the minimum 1,116 required student contact hours required yearly for student attendance. With this said, USD 234 will be utilizing Remote Learning days in place of a snow day for the remainder of the school year.  If a snow day is needed due to inclement weather students will be expected to participate in the Remote Learning plan your child’s building has developed.  School personnel will communicate this plan to students and families.  If you have questions, please contact your child’s building office.

USD 234 Food Service Department will follow the National Weather Service guidelines in extreme weather conditions. If USD 234 has an unanticipated snow/ice day when school is in session and all students are switched to remote learning, the Food Service Department will follow the District’s Extreme Weather Meal Service Plan.

This plan states that when students are switched to all remote learning due to inclement weather as reported by the National Weather Service for our area, meals will not be provided to children under the following conditions:

1. Winter Storm Warning

2. Ice Storm Warning

3. Blizzard Storm Warning

4. Wind Chill Advisory

COVID-19 Remote Learning:

USD 234 is still planning to use Remote Learning if there is an outbreak of COVID-19 positives in one or more buildings based on a recommendation from the health department.  If Remote Learning is being utilized because of COVID-19 breakfast and lunch meals will be provided and information on how to get those meals will be provided.

In-session Tomorrow, Friday, February 12, 2021:

As of right now we are planning to be in session tomorrow, Friday, February 12.  We will be monitoring the weather over the weekend regarding school on Tuesday.
